In Situ, Porcelain, 2017 is a series (ongoing) of Wall mounted sculptures that depict plants and animals in natural environments. Embedded in these environments are fragments of refuse, such as a used coffee cup or plastic water bottle. These objects from our daily lives are so abundant we seldom notice their presence anymore yet the marrying of these objects with a “natural” environment elicits a tension that is mingled with nostalgia and sentimentality.

The title, In Situ, meaning “in its original place” alludes to our nostalgia for the rapidly disappearing wilderness, emphasizing what has or will be lost. The title also references the medical term used in relation to the spread of a disease within the body. These works make reference to the 18th European pearl ware figurines that often depicted idyllic, sentimental landscapes with plants and animals. The surfaces of the sculptures from this series are glazed white, referencing, and emphasizing the decorative rococo heritage of porcelain.
