Shadows – hold their breath, 6” x 4.5” x 3”, 2021, stoneware and glaze

Title credit: The title is taken from a line in Emily Dickinson’s There’s a certain Slant of light

The title is taken from a line in Emily Dickinson’s poem “There’s a certain Slant of light”. This work is part of a series that explores the intersections between memory, the body and place. The shadow of a fern is etched on a (twice life sized) ceramic hand. Like a scar it serves as a metaphor for memories that are anchored deep.
